Summary: The article is dedicated to A. G. Bonch-Osmolovskaya and P. A. Lupanov, outstanding teachers who made a signifi cant contribution to the development of research and pedagogical education in the Republic of Karelia. The author analyzes their educational environment and shows the status of a teacher in the structure of educational environment at the beginning of the ХХ century under diffi cult circumstances brought about by the change of statehood. For the fi rst time an attempt has been made to fi nd and generalize information about Pyotr Andreevich Lupanov. The research has shown that he and his wife, Alexandra Georgievna Bonch-Osmolovskaya, despite the diff erences between their social background and paths to professional realization, remained in the history of Karelian education as teachers of exceptional qualifi cation thanks to their education and upbringing, as well as their family partnership. Their daughter, professor I. P. Lupanova (whose 100th anniversary was celebrated last year) was highly committed to the family principles and also left rich academic and pedagogical legacy.
