Summary: The relevance of the study is dictated by the intensification of relations between the Russian Federation and Asian countries. Vietnam in this context is one of the positive examples of bilateral cooperation. Vietnamese school history books, popular science publications, comics and video materials are taken as sources. Methodologically, the study is carried out within the framework of the concept of socio-cultural interaction between the two states. For Vietnamese authors, the continuity of key government officials and historical eras of Russia is important. In school books, comics, videos, one can trace the unity of perception of a strong Russia through Ivan IV, Peter I, Catherine II, V.I. Lenin and modern Russia represented by V.V. Putin as organizers of a strong state. Mandatory information for the authors of comics is an illustration of Russia’s policy in the Far East: the advance of Peter I to Kamchatka, trade with China; the development of Siberia by Catherine II, the expansion of the territory of the Russian Empire to Alaska, the organization of a trading mission to Japan. Promoting a positive image of Russia in Vietnam, including through the image of Peter the Great, is productive and can bring positive results in bilateral relations. This is an important and time-consuming process in the era of information pressure on people, when positive images are used for various purposes.
