Summary: The study presents the analysis of epithet words from the standpoint of their formation and functioning in
the texts of Marina Tsvetaeva. The relevance of this work lies in the insuffi cient knowledge of the system of indicative
words in her texts. The novelty of the research is determined by using the cognitive semantic approach for the analysis
of the selected material, which traces the patterns of formation and use of epithets and attributive structures in Tsvetaeva’s
texts. The research material was the poetry and prose of Marina Tsvetaeva, whose works are full of non-standard
ways of expressing attributes through epithets, with clarifi cation and detailed elaboration of attributes being a characteristic
feature of the poet’s idiostyle. The author emphasizes the metonymic logic in the transfer of attributes. The
aim of the study was to identify the idiolectic specifi cs of the formation and use of attributive words. The author off ers and substantiates the hypothesis that Marina Tsvetaeva’s works are centered around epithets as a universal means for characterizing objects. The conclusions confi rm that attributive words take a leading role in Tsvetaeva’s texts. Epithet words, occasional in their form and content, refl ect one bright feature of the poet’s idiostyle – her language refl ection. |
