Summary: The purpose of this article is consideration of the content and analysis of the results of work on the
modernization the railway infrastructure of the Kirov Mainline at each stage of the war. The research methodological base includes basic general scientific and historical methods. During the Great Patriotic War, the collective of the Kirov
Mainline railway workers faced strategic tasks. At the initial stage of the war, it was required to promptly transfer the
troops of the Northern, then Karelian front, to take equipment, raw materials of industrial enterprises, and the population
of the KFSSR to the rear areas. In 1942 – the first half of 1944, within the new territorial borders, it was necessary to
ensure uninterrupted supply of units and formations of the Karelian Front through army warehouses located at railway
stations, and as quickly as possible to transport goods from Murmansk to the rear regions of the country from the allies
in the anti-Hitler coalition during the winter navigation. After the liberation from the occupation of a part of the territory
of the KFSSR – to restore railway communications along the entire length of the Kirov Mainline. Results. At each stage
of the war, the modernization of the railway infrastructure of the Kirov Mainline was carried out taking into account the needs of wartime. No work has been carried out to expand the trunk infrastructure and increase the transport and economic connectivity of the regions of the European North. |
