Summary: In the first quarter of the XX century, both in Soviet Karelia and on the territory of Finland in the villages of the Ladoga area, an active gathering of folklore materials was taking place. Fairy tales recorded by Marta Pelkonen in the Salmi community were published by the Literary Society of Finland in 1976 in the collection “Satuja ja legendoja. Martta Pelkosen salmilaismuistiinpanoja” (“Tales and legends. Salmi Writings of Martta Pelkonen”). Among fairy tales collection there are also legends about real historical persons – Tsar Peter the Great and Countess Anna Orlova-Chesmenskaya, particularly about her participation in the buildings of church in Salmi.
