JOINT EATING AS A PHENOMENON OF THE ORIGINAL CULTURE OF THE CHUVASH

Summary: In the article, the topic on Chuvash material is proposed for discussion for the first time. Eating together at the inter-village, all-village, generic and family levels is analyzed in the context of traditional ritual actions and prayers. The purpose of the study is to reveal the role of joint eating in uniting the nation and good grandfathers’ traditions. The work is based on a broad base of primary sources. The author’s field notes (Saratov, Orenburg and Kuibyshev regions), archival sources (St. Petersburg branch of the Archive of RAS, Scientific archive of Chuvash State Institute for Humanitarian Research) and published materials are engaged. Developments of predecessors are used. Based on the conducted research, the author claims that the Chuvash people have always supported each other. Eating together united them. The ritual meal brought people together at an intimate level. Special attention was paid to the feeble old people, as well as relatives who had passed away. There was similar attitude to the deities. In general, the work is about food kinship.
