Summary: The article researches the problem of desertion soldiers of Olonets “new order regiment” in the summer-autumn
period of 1662. The time being studied against the background of more than one and a half decades of history of the
Olonets regiments is distinguished by an unprecedented scale of evasion. The purpose of the work is to consider how
the escalation of the conflict between soldiers and military command affected the scale of desertion. The question is
first investigated on the basis of the complex of sources used. Relevance is determined by the identification of the
dependence of the behavior of soldiers on the conditions of service. During the construction of the historical narrative,
historical-genetic and comparative methods were used. As a result of the study found that the main reasons for soldiers
desertion were the difficult situation on the fronts of the Russo-Polish War (1654–1667), a high mortality in the northwest
direction of hostilities, a hard military mobilization policy, a developing economic crisis and interruptions in food
supplies. The starting point for the mass desertion of soldiers of the Olonets regiments was the rebellion in the Johann
Treiden’s regiment on June 1, 1662, during the deployment of the regiment in Pskov. As a result of summer and autumn shoots, the Olonets “new order regiment” lost a significant part of the private soldiers. The authorities have not been able to completely solve the problem of desertion. |
