Summary: The study of the views of Chinese historians of the 1980–1990s of the Peter the Great’ reform activities, the identification of their value judgments regarding those areas that were affected by the reforms are the purpose of this article. The topic of the research is relevant in connection with the surge of interest of the personality of Peter I and his methods of modernizing Russia. The author of this article classified the available articles of Chinese historians, analyzed their perception of the measures taken to improve the established way of life in Russia. The overwhelming majority of these measures are assessed positively, but some aspects receive more attention. There are also critical remarks. The personality of Peter I appears to Chinese researchers to be complex and multifaceted, and, at the same time, majestic. It is his merit that the transformation and further rise of Russia is considered.
