Summary: Domestic historiography on the history of the Great Patriotic War is quite extensive. Active research on the problems
of the military-political and socio-economic life of the country in 1941–1944 continues in modern Russia, without
losing its relevance to the present. The novelty of the study is determined by the introduction into the scientific
circulation of previously unpublished sources. The author for the first time on the basis of legislative acts, archival
documents, published materials of the periodical press analyzes the activities of the Council of People’s Commissars
of the Karelian-Finnish SSR, the Republican Committee for Physical Culture and Sports in organizing assistance to
the front, creating training courses for ski instructors, hand-to-hand and bayonet battle, reconstruction of elementary
sports facilities. During the war years, the Committee held sports competitions among military personnel, members of
partisan detachments and the local population. The study focuses on the problems and difficulties of organizing work
on physical education, and also shows the results of sports activities. The author’s conclusions were the result of an
analysis of government orders of the Great Patriotic War, as well as materials from the funds of the KFSSR Council of
Ministers (f. R-1394) and Goskomsporttourism (f. R-860), which are stored in the National Archives of the Republic
of Karelia. The restoration of the historical details of the development of physical culture and sports in 1941–1944: the
organization of the city district Committees for physical culture and sports, financing, and the interaction of the KFSSR government – executive committees of the district councils – the local population will significantly complement the picture of the historical events of the Great Patriotic War in Karelia. |
