Summary: The article is devoted to the analysis of materials on the demonology and witchcraft of the Vepsians of the Isaevsky
rural society of the Chernoslobod volost of the Vytegorsky district of the Olonets province, revealed in the Tenishevsky
archive, to determine their specificity and features in comparison with data on the common Vepsian and Russian mythologies.
The relevance of the study is due to the fact that nothing is known about the mythological representations of
this group. It has been established that a significant part of the elements in the complexes of ideas about demonology
and witchcraft among the Isaev Vepsians turned out to be the same with the common Vepsian and North Russian mythological
traditions, and sometimes found wider parallels with East Slavic and Baltic-Finnish mythologies. The process
of Russification of Isaev’s Vepsians was clearly reflected in their traditional worldview. Russian influence affected the
appearance of Russian names for natural spirits and home buildings, their perceptions of them as single and not paired
and family host spirits, on the perception of the spirit of the house as a deceased ancestor and patron of cattle, and verbal components of rituals. The Russified version of the mythology of the Isaev Vepsians also included original formations, exact matches of which were not found in other regions.
