Summary: The Soviet-Finnish war of 1939–1940 became a tragic page in the history of not only our country, but also neighboring
Finland. This military conflict entered the history of the Second World War. Its outcome was influenced by several
important factors. One of the most important is the issue of logistics of the troops of the Red Army during the hostilities.
Especially sharply, it stood in the Northern Ladoga area. It was in this area during the war that the 18th, 168th rifle
divisions (rd) and the 34th light tank brigade (ltbr) were surrounded. The fact that the issue of logistics of the troops at
the time of the event is poorly covered in the special literature. In the military-historical science, its study is of particular
relevance. The purpose of this article is to show convincingly that an ill-conceived, unsatisfactory, and sometimes even
criminal attitude to the material and technical support of the troops of the Red Army in the whole theater of operations
significantly influenced the course of the war as a whole. Thus, the Red Army suffered heavy losses in manpower and
equipment due to poorly organized logistics of the troops. As a conclusion, the thesis was substantiated that, in the
aggregate of factors of supplying the units of the Red Army with all necessary, it was not sufficiently taken into account when developing plans for military operations against Finland. All this ultimately led the Red Army to disastrous consequences. |
