Summary: The results of a comprehensive comparative analysis of the images of the central female characters of the story “The Train Comes in Time” and the novel “Crime and Punishment” (Olina and Sonya), which has not been attempted before in Russian literature studies, are presented. This led to the novelty and relevance of the study. In the process of comparison between the heroines a series of roll calls are made at the level of disclosure of the characters and functions performed indicating that the image of Sonya Marmeladova was for H. Böll as one of the artistic prototypes in creating the image of Olina. However, the character of this heroine in the story of the German author is not revealed as diverse as that of Marmeladova in the novel of the Russian writer. These female characters, in the first place, are united by belonging to the type of a suffering person, the status of hostages of adverse social circumstances, and the desire to save their loved ones from death. The significant difference is the final of their destinies. If Sonya ultimately succeeds in resurrecting Raskolnikov’s heart with her love, Olina’s attempts to change her fate and Andreas’s fate fail and end with the death of both the heroes. The indicated correspondences indicate that H. Böll took into account the traditions of F. M. Dostoevsky in the aspect of developing the problem of “humiliated and insulted”.
