Summary: This article is the first research work, devoted to detailed analysis of well-known local historian V. P. Megorsky scholar activity. The goal of the article is to demobstrate V. P. Megorsky contribution to the research of Olonets region history in Petrine period through the eduction of factors, which impacted on his research interests formation and development. V. P. Megorsky published some works devoted to this topic, such as “Osudareva doroga” (“The Tzarist road”), “Lodeinopol’skaja shipyard during Peter the Great reign”, “The mining activity in Olonets region during Peter the Great”, “Olonets Martial waters resort during Peter the Great”, etc. The high emphasis places on V.P. Megorsky unpublished manuscript “Petrozavodsk during Peter the First”. In the article it was used documents and photos from private collection of B. V. Megorsky.
