Summary: The article shows the origin of educational book publishing, focused on teaching Karelian children faith, reading and writing skills. The literary and archival information on the creation of educational books is summarized, their connection with similar publications in other regions and national samples is indicated. Attention is drawn to the
content, structure and design of educational publications, methods of teaching reading. The evolution of the textbook
from the catechism to the textbook itself is shown, which was associated with the expansion of secular information and
new printing capabilities, the use of illustrative material. Church and public institutions are represented, as well as
people who participated in the creation of textbooks. The determining role of the Orthodox clergy and rural teachers in
their training, on the one hand, and educational organizations and institutions, on the other, is revealed. The research focuses on the problems of the history of educational literature for schools located within the modern borders of theRepublic of Karelia, projected onto a map of Karelian-populated volosts and counties of the Olonets and Arkhangelsk provinces. |
