Summary: The article aims to explore the biography and scientific legacy of Grigory Aleksandrovich Pankrushev, whose research had a significant impact on the development of archaeology in the region. By analyzing selected materials from an archaeological survey catalog, the study presents the first-ever mapping of sites discovered and studied by Pankrushev. Over the course of 35 years, he discovered and surveyed a quarter of all known archaeological sites in Karelia, progressing from a junior research fellow in the history department to the head of the archaeology department he founded. Pankrushev’s efforts led to the discovery of numerous Mesolithic, Neolithic, Eneolithic, Bronze Age, and Early Iron Age sites not only in Karelia but also in neighboring regions such as the Arkhangelsk, Vologda, and Leningrad oblasts. His extensive fieldwork contributed to the collections of the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, paving the way for further investigations into the region’s ancient history. Furthermore, the scientific school established by Pankrushev played a significant role in training new generations of specialists and provided the scientific and methodological foundation for addressing pressing archaeological and historical issues in the region.
