Summary: This article presents an analysis of research on the various periodizations of the Russian Civil War,
conducted by Russian historians during the 1990s and the early 2020s. The study aims to identify key controversial
issues in the periodization of the Civil War and to explore the underlying causes of discrepancies and divergent
interpretations of its chronology in contemporary historiography. It examines the political and epistemological research
approaches that influenced the development of different periodizations during the 1990s to mid-2000s and from the
second half of the 2000s to the early 2020s. To achieve this, the article analyzes a range of Russian historiographical
works published over the past thirty years within this thematic context. Through this review, the author highlights that by the early 2020s, the historiography of the periodization of the Civil War had evolved into a distinct field of research, as evidenced by the emergence of specialized publications dedicated solely to this topic. The research offers valuable practical insights into how the conceptualization and functional role of knowledge about the Civil War have transformed within modern Russian historiography. |
