Summary: The article publishes the materials of the Zolotets XL site discovered in 2022 by the expedition of Petrozavodsk State University in the lower reaches of the Vyg River, in the immediate vicinity of certain groups of the White Sea petroglyphs. The data presented in the article is of considerable interest in the context of the problems of dating rock engravings of the White Sea and climatic changes at the beginning of the Subboreal epoch in the territory of the Western White Sea. Based on the results of radiocarbon dating and the search for analogies to the finds obtained during the excavations, probable periods of rising water levels in the estuary of the Vyg River were established, which led to the erosion and sometimes to the washing away of the cultural layer of ancient settlements located near the Besov Sledki group of rock carvings. In addition, during the study of the excavation materials, evidence of distant contacts of the ancient population of the southwestern White Sea region with the tribes of hunters and fishermen who inhabited the Northern Urals in the first half of the IV millennium BC.
