Summary: The article is dedicated to the memory of Galina Nikolayevna Bogdanova, a Karelian historian, whose 100th anniversary is celebrated on 28 February 2025. Based on the contextual approach to analyzing biographical sources, the article presents the most important milestones in her life and work in both science and education. Galina Bogdanova belongs to the first generation of women scientists from the national periphery of Russia who received higher education during the Soviet period, became candidates of science, and were engaged in scientific research and teaching. The main areas of her scientific interest were the history of Karelia during the second half of the XVIII century and the first years of Soviet power, as well as the history of the European North of Russia during the military intervention and the Civil War. The contextual biography of Galina Bogdanova reflects fateful moments in the history of the Veps people associated with drastic changes in national policy, the difficult years of the Great Patriotic War, research by Soviet historians of Karelia, and the history of Petrozavodsk State University.
