Summary: The foundation of this publication is derived from materials housed in the Russian State Archive of Social and Political History (RGASPI). Central to the study is the transcript from the 5th Plenum of the Central Committee of the Leninist Communist League of Youth of the Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic, which took place on February 27-28, 1950. The organization and execution of this event were conducted personally by Yu. V. Andropov, following directives from Moscow. The author had the opportunity to examine this documentary source in its entirety, as well as to explore numerous personal fi les of young Komsomol leaders from that period, many of whom later emerged as notable statesmen in both the country and Karelia. This publication sheds light on the signifi cant role played by Yu. V. Andropov, the Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Karelo-Finnish Republic, in the events surrounding the “Leningrad case” and its repercussions within the sixteenth union republic.
