Summary: The article deals with the work of S. V. Engelhardt, a representative of women’s fiction prose of the XIX
century. Engelhardt’s work becomes more relevant in connection with the interest of researchers to the phenomenon of women’s prose, including the appeal to the “forgotten” names of its representatives. Modern researchers tend to consider
women’s prose as a multifaceted phenomenon and turn to Engelhardt’s work in the context of the work of classic 19th
century writers: I. S. Turgenev, F. M. Dostoevsky, A. N. Ostrovsky. Engelhardt left quite a large literary heritage. The
subject of analysis in our article will be the novella “Two Housewarmings”, written in the 60s of the XIX century. We have considered the story from the point of view of the main levels of organization of the artistic text: narration, plot, characters, chronotope, genre. From the plot point of view, the work continues the so-called “estate plot”, widely spread in Russian literature of the XIX century. |
