Summary: Analysis of the image of the Greek in the story “Hellados” by Nodar Dumbadze reveals the complex interaction between national identity and modern realities. The long historical connection of the Greeks with various regions of the Black Sea coast is known. Settlements founded by Greek colonists intersected with a variety of cultures over the centuries, including the Romans, Byzantines, Ottoman Turks, Russians, Abkhazians and many others. The analysis of the intersection of worlds and the conflict between Greek identity and modernity reveals the deep themes of the work. The image of the Greek presented in the novel is used by the author to raise important issues related to national identity, the right to choose and the place of man in the modern world.
