Summary: The governors, as representatives of the highest regional administration on the ground, determined the main directions in the development of the region. From their experience, interest, initiative, the solution of most problems of local importance depended. Since 1868, with some interruptions at the head of the Akmola region were military governors. By the beginning of the twentieth century, this feature no longer corresponded to reality, and in August 1906 the title of the post was changed. In the period from 1906 to 1917 on the post of civil governor of Akmola region there were 6 people. Among them, persons with civilian ranks predominated, which was directly connected with the changes in 1906 about the renaming of the post. The educational level of the region's chiefs, the experience of administrative activities, the term of office in the period under review corresponded to all-Russian tendencies, which was one of the evidence of the process of integration of periphery into the all-imperial space. The activities of the governors were closely linked with the solution of social and economic problems, with the development of the cultural sphere, the supervision of administrative institutions and officials of the civil department.
