Summary: The novelty of the study is seen in the fact that it examines the question of how the figure of the Russian Emperor Peter the Great is represented in the mass and popular science literature of China and English-speaking western countries (primarily Great Britain and the USA). The relevance of the study is due to the approaching 350th anniversary of Peter the Great’s birth, as well as the intensification of world research dealing with the problems of perception of bright cultural and historical symbols of some countries in the media and media-related information space of other states. The paper reviews materials from widely available popular books and Internet publications about Peter the Great in China and the English-speaking world. It also presents the results of the comparative analysis of such literature and reveals the similarities and differences between various views on Peter the Great reflected there. The authors make an attempt to identify and explain the possible nature of these images, including in connection with the peculiarities of the mentality of Chinese and western people.
