Summary: The article discusses the concept of “Old Russian literature after Ancient Rus”. The material of the spiritual testament of the Old Believer Bishop Gerontius, written in the twentieth century, shows the deep connections of the Old Believers’ works of the new time with the monuments of Old Russian literature, its motifs, subjects and genres, with its artistic techniques. The spiritual testaments of the Russian church hierarchs of the fifteenth – seventeenth centuries, the prayer texts of Theodosius of Pechersk, the messages of Avvakum, the archpriest, are found in the artistic subtext of the testament – sermon of Gerontius. This is a manifestation of the living connection of Old Believers literature with the Russian cultural tradition.
