Summary: The article defines the significance of the materials in the Berlin archive of the Russian publicist V. F. Putsykovich in source studies
on the journal “Citizen” (edited by V. F. Putsykovich in St. Petersburg in 1874–1879). The documents identified in the manuscript
fund of Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, which were once part of the archive of the “Citizen’s” editorial office, are published as part of
the article and analyzed in the context of thematically close materials of the departmental archive of the highest censorship instance
of pre-revolutionary Russia – the General Directorate of the Press of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The scope of authority of
V. F. Putsykovich as editor-publisher of “Citizen” is clarified. The contract of October 10, 1878 of V. F. Putsykovich with Yu. D. Zasetskaya
on the redemption of the last cash deposit, which provided the publication of the “Citizen”, is analyzed in detail; the conclusion of the contract is interpreted as an attempt by V. F. Putsykovich to prevent the financial collapse of the publication and its sale by auction. |
