Summary: The article analyzes the inflammability of the forests of the Velsky district of Arkhangelsk region, since this area, according to statistics, is located on the first place in the number of forest fires for 5 years. Forest inflammability was characterized by the relative fire area (ha per 1000ha), the fre-quency of fires (pcs per 1000 hectares) and the average fire area per year (ha). Factors affecting on the parameters of forest inflammability are considered: natural fire hazard, percentage of pine plantations, duration of a fire season. The distribution of fires by purpose and categories of protective forests, types of forest, by the time of occurrence by the days of the week and the causes of occurrence were analyzed. The green belt is the most inflammability. The greatest area of burning out is characteristic for polytric pine forests. The greatest number of forest fires occur in mid-July and on weekends. Therefore, if you exclude lightning as the only natural source of forest fires, the main culprit of fires in the Velsky district is a human. In this regard, it is necessary to carry out extensive work with the population, to set up the local information board and stands, to organize rest places and constantly monitor them, especially on holidays; in the fire-dangerous period, block access to the forest by installing barriers.
