Summary: revolution into the Russian language and especially with the challenges of the translation of some ethnographic items. The main aim of the paper is relying on archival documents to give an idea of some ethnographic peculiarities which were arisen in the process of the translation of the first Komi historical novels about the October revolution into Russian. To achieve this aim the author compares original texts with translations into Russian, introduces archival documents into scientific discourse and reveals the influence of the historical period on the priorities of the process of translation. The scientific novelty of the study is as follows: the unstudied in terms of translation texts and archival documents namely correspondences by authors and editors are brought to the investigation. The paper concerns the most important historical and cultural processes in Russia of that time, because the original novels in question were published for the first time in the period of Stalin's repressions, while the translations were published in the years of the Thaw. Nowadays these novels are relevant both in the Komi and Russian languages because of their highly performed ethnographic details, which give a picture of the material and spiritual values of the people.
