Summary: Kiryazh (Kurkiоjoki) pogost of the Korela uezd (distrist) has been under Swedish rule for more than a hundred years as a result of the wars of the XVI–XVII centuries between Russia and Sweden. Demographic changes are considered at the local level on the conquered territory in the article for the first time. The purpose of the study is to analyze the main prerequisites, identify the causes that have affected the changing demographic situation. Statistical methods were used to study sources from the archives of Sweden. The analysis of the most ancient maps of the Kiryazh Pogost in 1646 was carried out for the first time. The causes of mass migration of the indigenous population to Russia were religious oppression and economic difficulties. The peak of migration occurred in 1656–1568. The policy of Sweden contributed to the settling of vacant territories by its subjects, Lutherans in religion. By the end of the 17th century about 6,4 % of the indigenous Orthodox population remained in the Kiryazh pogost.
