The ballet “Sampo” demonstrated the best traditions of Russian dance art and showed a high level of cultural development in the regions of the USSR. The participation of the artists of Karelia in the VIII World Festival of Youth and Students allowed them to get world fame, get acquainted with the creative works of foreign colleagues, which became an incentive for the further development of the art of the region. Preparation for the ballet troupe of the Musical Drama Theater and the ensemble “Kantele” for the festival has established close cooperation with specialists from Moscow and Leningrad. This provided the conditions for the professional development of dance groups in Karelia. After the festival, cultural contacts between Karelia and Finland became regular and fruitful.
