Summary: In article the problem of protection of a military and state secret during the military period and her interrelations with the course of fighting is considered. The purpose of article is definition whether the course of fighting influences structure, contents and character of the classified information. This question wasn’t taken up in an open historiography and in it its relevance and novelty yet. The author states the facts and the events held by the Soviet state in Glavlit kind of activity on protection of a military and state secret at the beginning and in process of fighting in 1939–1940 and are described 1941–1942. The author has also presented a wide range and examples of the data acquiring the status confidential which protection becomes relevant with the course of fighting. In article interaction of bodies political and the government on information security when expansion of a circle of the classified information is observed is noted and in practice criteria of validity and timeliness of information security come into effect and are implemented. The conclusions drawn in article allow to establish that the course of fighting directly influences quantity and character of the data demanding protection and the Soviet state managed not to allow disclosure of a considerable part of the classified information of military and state value, so to the necessary enemy.
